Alberta Broadband Access Program – Connecting 50+ Communities
SCROLL
For more than 15 years, ROHL has forged strong and meaningful partnerships with First Nations communities, exemplifying our unwavering commitment to bridge connectivity divides. In collaboration with our Indigenous Partners, we have successfully empowered over 50 communities throughout Alberta, ushering in a new era of connectedness. This partnership is more than just business; it’s a heartfelt mission to ensure that every Canadian, irrespective of their geographic location, has unhindered access to vital services. ROHL’s endeavours in this realm stand as a shining testament to our dedication towards fostering inclusivity, technological advancement, and social equity across the nation.
CHALLENGES
Many communities we served had no prior broadband backbone, with no existing trench network, scattered populations, and terrain that ranged from muskeg to rocky soil.
Local permitting, Indigenous land access, and seasonal constraints made logistics complex.
SOLUTION/APPROACH
ROHL deployed a turnkey model: survey, design, civil works, cable install, splicing, final testing. Leveraging specialized plows, directional drilling, and design, we maintained pace even in remote conditions.
We coordinated closely with local leadership and funded agencies to ensure transparency and mutual accountability.
OUTCOME
• 1500 km+ of fiber deployed
• 4,893 homes and businesses connected
• Network uptime commitment: 99.9%+
• Improved access to e‑health, education, commerce in partner communities
