Construction Manager

We are currently seeking a Construction Manager to oversee the construction of our Alberta projects. The Construction Manager will report to the Vice President, Special Operations, and will oversee daily field operations and ensure that all projects are completed safely, on time, on budget and in compliance with specification and customer’s expectations.  Additionally, the Construction Manager will supervise manpower, subcontractors and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Schedules, supervises, directs, coaches, trains and mentors the project teams; ensures project milestones and completion dates are met
  • Effectively communicates with crews, subcontractors, customers and trades and ensures that performance, productivity, quality and safety requirements are met
  • Reviews workload with management and crew schedules on an ongoing basis
  • Strategically plans and implements manpower levels and material quantities and ensures proper equipment and trades are available as required
  • Assumes a leadership role and provides guidance to project team members and sub-contractors
  • Supervises sub-contractors to achieve all required project deliverables
  • Participates project meetings with internal and external stakeholders to monitor and support the projects ongoing progression
  • Create site specific plans and procedures; ensure the implementation of ROHL’s Safety Program to create a safe work environment throughout all jobsites
  • Proactively manages potential problems, work interferences and schedule conflicts/setbacks
  • Creates, maintains, and executes the project plan and schedule, and ensures compliance with budget and quality
  • Assist with site access, including all site visits and deliveries
  • Perform other field or office duties as required

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of supervisory experience in utility construction or in a similar supervisory role
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience working with utility and fiber optic cable installation
  • Working knowledge of health, safety and environmentally safe work practices and procedures as they apply to common construction processes
  • Solid understanding of current construction practices
  • Knowledge of various pieces of construction equipment and their operating capabilities (i.e. directional drills, vac trucks, road cut saws etc.)
  • Proven ability to guide safe work practices in a high-pressure environment while maintaining project quality, schedule, and budget
  • Strong knowledge of construction documents (including utility plans and maps), contracts, costs, and budgets
  • Ability to communicate clearly and collaborate with multiple project stakeholders, interpreting their needs and identifying solutions
  • Capable of anticipating constructability issues in complex situations and creating solutions in the construction plan and schedule
  • Facilitation and mentoring skills; can move the team forward and resolve conflict situations as they arise
  • A track record of building successful teams and promoting teamwork through motivating, coaching, and consensus-building
  • Strong organizational and planning skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of programs; intermediate to advanced user of Microsoft Excel and Outlook
  • Valid Class 1-5 driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract
