As a Labourer, you play a key role in bringing this mission to life by providing hands-on support to your crew, performing essential tasks that keep projects moving safely and efficiently, and ensuring that each job meets ROHL’s high standards for quality, safety, and long-term value.

The Role

In this role, you will report to the Crew Supervisor. Your key responsibilities as Labourer will be to support ROHL projects by providing physical labour during all phases of the construction processes. You will provide a broad range of support in areas such as hand work, material movement, clearing terrain, site preparation, shoveling and basic equipment operations.

Responsibilities may differ depending on the project, however, key responsibilities include:

Material Management and Site Maintenance:

  • Load, unload, and move construction materials around the worksite.
  • Signal to operators of construction equipment to ensure the safe alignment and movement of materials.
  • Adjust surfaces by spreading gravel, dirt, seed, and other construction materials with a rake or shovel, including leveling, building, or decreasing slopes.
  • Operate equipment such as pneumatic hammers, vibrators, tampers, and skid steers.
  • Ensure the worksite is organized and free of clutter, rubble, and garbage to maintain operational efficiency and safety.

Traffic Control and Safety:

  • Execute traffic control plans by placing, removing, covering, and uncovering traffic control signs, cones, barricades, and other traffic control devices.
  • Direct traffic when necessary to ensure smooth operations and public safety.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Execute and adhere to the company’s safety program while actively promoting a culture of safety among team members.
  • Attend daily and weekly safety meetings and inspections to stay informed of safety protocols and updates.
  • Work with the Safety Department to investigate damage, incidents, or near misses at the worksite, ensuring proper procedures are followed according to the company’s Safety Program.

  • Work in a safe and responsible manner, ensuring personal actions do not intentionally or unintentionally endanger yourself or others.
  • Exhibit professionalism and leadership in all interactions with team members, clients, and stakeholders.

  1. Consistent Reliability. Arrives on time, ready to work, every day. Follows instructions accurately and completes assigned tasks without needing constant supervision. Maintains a strong work ethic and a positive attitude throughout the day.
  2. High-Quality Work. Perform tasks efficiently, safely, and to the required standards. Pays attention to detail to ensure the finished product meets or exceeds client expectations and ROHL standards.
  3. Strong Safety awareness.  Wears proper PPE at all times and follows site safety rules. Recognizes and reports hazards, helping create a safer worksite. Uses tools and equipment correctly and carefully.
  4. Team Player. Works well with supervisors, other crew membe.rs and subcontractors. Communicate clearly and respectfully. Supports co-workers and helps out when needed to keep the job moving

Physical Requirements

There are several physical requirements required as part of this role:

 

  • Ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including hearing protection in high-noise environments and specialized respiratory equipment on designated construction sites
  • Ability to climb ladders and access elevated platforms
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs
  • Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, bending, and performing repetitive tasks
  • Potential exposure to energized utilities
  • Risk of musculoskeletal strain or injury due to physical activity
  • Exposure to extreme weather conditions, including high heat and cold
  • Exposure to construction-related hazards such as fumes, vibration, and loud noise

In addition, the following are required for this role:

 

  • Must have valid Class 5 Driver’s license with clean driving abstract.
  • Must have access to a reliable vehicle for commuting to and from the shop.
  • Must have own steel toe boots – CSA approved with Omega symbol  (remaining PPE with be provided)
  • Ability to travel out of town during the week or on weekends
  • Comfortable and able to work around energized utilities
